Greetings! Just a few words about what’s been going on with our youth these last few weeks and what exciting things we have planned for the near future!

Our confirmation retreat was GREAT. Don’t tell the previous years – but this was perhaps the best one yet. We had a wonderful time at Liberty Hill (Thanks to the Longs!) and our group really has begun to grow close as a community of faith. This picture (left) was snapped by Becky Benson, one of our awesome Confirmation Advisors. It really shows what this process is all about. Confirmation is a time of transformation. Our students are growing from one stage of their faith to another. They are coming out of their spiritual cocoon and giving wings to their relationship with God. It is amazing to see this happen. Keep your eyes on this group over the next several months – they will start flying soon!

Our 2011 Mission Team is technically full. We received the 23rd registration on Sunday. We may be able to add more, but that will depend on many factors. So, if you have a friend (or you!) that is still interested, sign up with a deposit and registration form and I’ll put you on the waiting list. It is very possible that we’ll be able to make a bigger team.We have our first team meeting planned for October 24 @ 7pm. This is a mandatory information meeting for all team (and potential) members and their family. We’ll be going over the financial expectations, fundraising plans, and local mission events. This meeting will follow our Middle School SNF and our All Youth Dinner and Bible Study.

We have a Youth Theme Park Weekend Retreat planned for Jan 14-17. See our “resource” page to download a flyer for the trip. It’s a “Battle of the Castles” as you’ll need to vote whether you want to attend Walt Disney World or Universal Studios. You need to sign up by November 14. The cost is $350-$385.

Stay tuned for an amazing year. It’s been great – and is going to keep on getting better!

I didn’t do any blogging last year! I’m going to change that this year!

Thanks to all who came out to our big Fall Kick-Off Tailgate party. It was fantastic. Many apologies to any who suffered injuries from any of the “Minute to Win It” challenges. Hopefully, you have all recovered by now. It was wonderful to have everyone participating in getting our Fall Youth Ministry started. There was such an energetic and exciting attitude. Special thanks to Mary Linda, Sharon & Natalie and all the dinner planners and cooks.

At our kick-off meeting I presented many plans and hopes for the coming year. More about the “7 year plan” on another blog entry. One of the big plans is our 2011 Youth Summer Mission Trip to Los Angeles. In the 11 short days that have passed since that meeting we have had 18 students sign-up to be part of the mission team. This is awesome! I will be contacting CSM (our mission host) and increasing our team size from 14 to 25! And if those spots fill up….. we’ll hopefully add more! However, it seems likely that we’ll be limiting our team to 20 spots as it may become financially difficult to raise funds to meet that significant a need. Also, it may be difficult to recruit the adults needed to lead a team any bigger than 20 students. I’ll keep you posted! Needless to say, if you haven’t signed up you better do so quickly!

We’ve got great things planned for the year. Make sure you visit our website for updated info on all our events.Blessings,

Matt

PS – we’ve moved our Christmas Party and Progressive Dinner to December 12th (from Dec 19). Please update your calendars!

Hopefully the point was made was that there is Christian music that is exciting and fun! If you took any photos send me them! I’ll post then to our site and on facebook!

Our confirmation retreat was a great start to our confirmation class. The whole class was there and it was a great way to begin to get to know each other and to begin exploring our faith together. I know it’s going to be a great class! The bonfire and star gazing were a great highlight to the weekend. Special thanks to Benita and Jack Long for letting us use Liberty Hill – a perfect location with perfect accommodations. Also thanks to Mike Williams, Ann Helms, and Becky Benson for helping to pull it all off. Pictures will be coming soon. Check our media gallery later this week.

Also had a great start to our Sunday Night Fellowship. Good crowd and a lot of excitement. Thanks to Denise Rosenzweig for a great dinner.

I also heard we had a great turn out for Sunday School. I want to make sure everyone knows we have an exciting SPECIAL SUPER SUNDAY SCHOOL this Sunday. It’s a game show styled battle of the sexes. Who will be the champion – the boys or girls? Come and join us to find out!

We’ll see you all next Sunday!

Many of you (of the 30 who were there) will remember (hopefully) that I introduced you to “Answer Me Jesus.” My memory of the lock-in was that it was a great one – but could my sleep impaired memory be trusted? I decided to ask Jesus how the Lock-In went. Here’s how the interview went.

ME: Answer Me Jesus, do you think the youth had a good time at the lock-in?

AMJ : – HAVE FAITH

ME: Answer Me Jesus, I wasn’t able to stay awake the whole time, and some of the youth said I snored.

AMJ: I STILL LOVE YOU

ME: Answer Me Jesus, I would like to have another game of SEARCH so I can scare the youth some more. They seemed real spooked by how dark it was.

AMJ: RESIST THE DEVIL

ME: Answer Me Jesus, Do you think that the youth who stayed up all night will be able to recover and focus on their school work the rest of the week? Or do you think their parents will be mad they stayed up all night playing Guitar Hero and watching movies?

AMJ: REWARDS AWAIT YOU

ME: Do you think that we’ll have another lock in in the future?

AMJ: I WOULD!

I hope you all enjoyed meeting Answer Me Jesus at the Lock-in and I hope you all look to the real Jesus for your answers and make him a bigger part of your life.

Because many have already requested a copy of my sermon to share with a friend or family member, or in case you missed it, you can listen to the sermon at our media gallery (photos and videos from the home page). You can get there directly HERE

It is my prayer that our story may be a testimony of the great things God is doing in our midst. If this can be a help to others – please feel free to share!

We enjoyed Cheeto-Head, Donut-Bobbing, Blindfolded Ice Cream, and the Slip-N-Slide and the screaming balloons.

Derrick T. won the Messy Diaper Challenge. The correct messes were caramel (incorrectly identified the most of all five substances), barbecue sauce, CheezeWhiz, chocolate syrup, and peanut butter with raisins. Congrats Derrick!
