Fun Time @ Carowinds

October 6th, 2008

What a great time the 27 of us had at Carowinds. Some of the brave ones rode coasters while others chose the mild rides. (BTW - how many times did you 6th graders ride the sky tower?) The concert was fun - tho perhaps a bit loud! Hopefully the point was made was that there is Christian music that is exciting and fun! If you took any photos send me them! I’ll post then to our site and on facebook! Special thanks to Paul and Denise Rosenzweig and Bette Wright for chaperoning!  We couldn’t have gone without you.  See ya!

What a weekend!

September 15th, 2008

Our confirmation retreat was a great start to our confirmation class.  The whole class was there and it was a great way to begin to get to know each other and to begin exploring our faith together.  I know it’s going to be a great class!  The bonfire and star gazing were a great highlight to the weekend.  Special thanks to Benita and Jack Long for letting us use Liberty Hill - a perfect location with perfect accommodations.  Also thanks to Mike Williams, Ann Helms, and Becky Benson for helping to pull it all off.  Pictures will be coming soon.  Check our media gallery later this week.

Also had a great start to our Sunday Night Fellowship.  Good crowd and a lot of excitement.  Thanks to Denise Rosenzweig for a great dinner.

I also heard we had a great turn out for Sunday School.  I want to make sure everyone knows we have an exciting SPECIAL SUPER SUNDAY SCHOOL this Sunday.  It’s a game show styled battle of the sexes.  Who will be the champion - the boys or girls?  Come and join us to find out!

We’ll see you all next Sunday!

Fall 2008 - Off To A Great Start!

September 8th, 2008

If the first couple weeks of our new school year is any indication of the year we’ll be having - it’s gonna be great!  Our End of the Year Lake trip was loads of fun (be sure to see the photos in the media gallery).  Special thanks to the Benson’s and Rosenzweig’s.  We’ve had amazing turn out to the Tuesday Morning Prayer Breakfast - in fact our attendance has doubled!  We also had a great turn out at the parent’s planning meeting.  Thank you to the Few’s and Doyle’s for hosting.  We’ve got a brand new schedule and an exciting year planned.  I’m hoping you’ll all be involved.

Great Adventure

February 26th, 2008

Adven

We had a great time at Adventure Crossing this last Sunday. 30 of us gathered to ride go-karts and play video games. No serious injury (no thanks to a certain middle schooler who shall remain nameless, but who’s initials are DH). Thanks to all who brought friends and to the adults who helped drive. Photos are in the media gallery.

On Tuesday we had our biggest gathering for our Prayer Breakfast. 12 of us started the day off with prayer and chicken-minis or chicken biscuits. Maybe we can get up to 15 next week!

Lock-In 2008

January 22nd, 2008

answermejesus2.jpg

Many of you (of the 30 who were there) will remember (hopefully) that I introduced you to “Answer Me Jesus.” My memory of the lock-in was that it was a great one - but could my sleep impaired memory be trusted? I decided to ask Jesus how the Lock-In went. Here’s how the interview went.

ME: Answer Me Jesus, do you think the youth had a good time at the lock-in?

AMJ : - HAVE FAITH

ME: Answer Me Jesus, I wasn’t able to stay awake the whole time, and some of the youth said I snored.

AMJ: I STILL LOVE YOU

ME: Answer Me Jesus, I would like to have another game of SEARCH so I can scare the youth some more. They seemed real spooked by how dark it was.

AMJ: RESIST THE DEVIL

ME: Answer Me Jesus, Do you think that the youth who stayed up all night will be able to recover and focus on their school work the rest of the week? Or do you think their parents will be mad they stayed up all night playing Guitar Hero and watching movies?

AMJ: REWARDS AWAIT YOU

ME: Do you think that we’ll have another lock in in the future?

AMJ: I WOULD!

I hope you all enjoyed meeting Answer Me Jesus at the Lock-in and I hope you all look to the real Jesus for your answers and make him a bigger part of your life.

Glad Tidings of Great Joy!

December 10th, 2007

img_1806-b.JPGThank you to all of you who have been praying and supporting Betsy and I during this time of struggle - and now joy.  Your kind words following my sermon have been a great encouragement.  It has been wonderful to be surrounded by your support.  We’re so excited that we’re expecting, and that we get to share that with you all.  The baby is due around June 10th.

Because many have already requested a copy of my sermon to share with a friend or family member, or in case you missed it, you can listen to the sermon at our media gallery (photos and videos from the home page).  You can get there directly HERE

It is my prayer that our story may be a testimony of the great things God is doing in our midst.  If this can be a help to others - please feel free to share!

Making a Mess of Things

September 13th, 2007

Mess OlympicsAnother Great Night!  Thanks to all who came out for the Lame Games last Sunday.  About 30 people gathered at the Rosenzweig’s for a night of sloppy joes and messy fun.  Special thanks to Denise, Paul, Anna, Paul and Mary for hosting the fun and putting all the messy games together.

We enjoyed Cheeto-Head, Donut-Bobbing, Blindfolded Ice Cream, and the Slip-N-Slide and the screaming balloons.

Derrick T. won the Messy Diaper Challenge.  The correct messes were caramel (incorrectly identified the most of all five substances), barbecue sauce, CheezeWhiz, chocolate syrup, and peanut butter with raisins.  Congrats Derrick!

Check out the photos at the media gallery of all the messy fun.

Confirmation Class 2008 - Off To A Great Start

August 30th, 2007

The Confirmation Class of 2008 began their year with a weekend retreat.  On Saturday we studied and played at Liberty Hill, thanks to Benita L.  We spent a lot of time getting to know each other through community building and games.  Everyone agreed - Badminton was great.  There must have been something in the meatballs we had for dinner because Maggie S. kept talking about them the rest of the weekend!  Go figure.

Confitmation Class 01On Sunday our class went to Bishop Gravatt for some time on the ropes course.  There was a lot of “teamwork” building as we had to work together to accomplish certain tasks.  Then after a lunch of chicken sandwiches we tackled some of the high-ropes.  Lot’s of fun was had, even by the adults.

Confitmation Class 02

Check out the Photo Gallery for more pictures.  (Hey Maggie - bring your camera to class so I can get a copy of your pics too!)

Confirmation classes begin on Wednesdays at 6:00.  Dinner is available for a small cost.  See you then!

Chicken and the Ark

June 28th, 2007

We enjoyed a bit of Chick-fil-a and Evan Almighty today.  Our prayer brunch was partnered with a little cinema.  Thanks to Anna, Paul, Bennett, David, Will, Mary, Kennedy, and Andrew, and Thomas for being a part of our little Summer outing.  Everyone seemed to enjoy Evan Almighty.  I thought it was pretty good too.  It was a good movie with a faith-filled message.
